First Chemo treatment

An update from my first chemo treatment…

Well, I have survived my first round of chemo treatment. The day of chemo wasn’t bad at all, but the days following were not great. I am grateful that they were not worse as it could have been since I have heard the stories. I was extremely tired and weak, and it was a struggle to do just about anything beyond the basics like eating a small meal. I was nauseous briefly, but that as well was not too bad. I am experiencing some neuropathy in my feet and fingers, but that should go away with time. It did take about four days to start too feeling like I could start getting up and doing a little more each day. Taking it very slow and cautious, I began walking for about 10 minutes on my treadmill, of course my doctor stressed that I need to walk every day as much as I can tolerate. But I did it since it is part of the process to get me through this journey.

As I type this post, I am feeling really good today…almost back to normal. My appetite is completely back and so happy that it is. Bland foods are good to get you through a rough patch, but oh I am so happy to eat all my favorite foods again. A reward well earned I think. Admittedly, I over ate a couple of times just because the food tasted so good. No regrets! I spent today getting caught up on some computer work and somethings that just needed to be done, but being cautious to not over exert myself where I shouldn’t…thanks to my boys who stepped in to help when needed.

Overall, I am glad to have round one done. Only five more rounds to go. Please keep praying for me as I am aware that it can get a little more difficult with each round, but I am strong. And I will only be taking it one day at a time.

For those who are curious….I still have my hair. 😉 But that doesn’t mean some fun wigs will not make their debut very soon. Why not have some fun?!

Thank you to everyone who chipped in one way or another or called/texted/messaged to see how I was doing. Love you all.

  3. Candy, I’m so glad you are recovering from session one and that the symptoms have passed. Here’s some info that was passed along to us a couple of years ago: When my mother was doing chemo, she was told to keep her hands and feet on ice during the infusion to keep the neuropathy away. It sounds awful, I know, but it works! We are praying for you!
